Pearce Cycles 2008 series: Round Two
Hopton, nr Craven Arms
Jim - 26th April 2008
Back to racing archive

Another weekend, another race day at Hopton, a firm favourite in most racers books, expect solid roots from top to bottom and if its wet expect to slide everywhere and a good run would be the one where you stay on the bike from top to bottom.
After using the brand new track last year, its back to the old favourite straight off the start line, through the open section and turning left at the bottom.. around the wide sweeping berm at the bottom and dropping into the natural finish arena.

Despite the wet weather conditions, and the heavy fog at the top of the hill racing was still tight and hotly contested, a fast time of 2.27 would put you on the Elite podium, it would seem no-one told Sam Dale that who set a 2.32 to take second overall, in junior! They say that regional racing is a springboard to the Worlds.. well a junior amongst world cup racers.. who knows..

In the huge Masters field the equally huge Dave List took first, with Alun Lewis and Col Williams behind. Once again the ladies were out in force with 15 racing, Aimee Dix pipped Emily Horridge to the post to take Elite, and in Junior Jessica Stone came fourth overall in the ladies behind Emily Horridge, only 17 seconds off the pace.. again the youngsters pushing hard for future success on the international stage. Monet Adams was also pushing hard in Youth to get a 3.17.

A pretty short and sweet report, you can find the full category results here and there's a full gallery of images from the race right here on fat tyre.
