National Championships 2005
Bringewood
James - 20th July 2005
Back to racing archive
Last year Fort William enjoyed the national champs, but this year its returned to Shropshire back at Bringewood, theres no threat of fields of midges here!
The evtn was run by the Pearce Cycles team, and before we go onto anything else I have to say it was one of the best run events I have ever seen, the Pearces still working the magic after 10 years of organising events!
The course started on the second, lower start (not the one with the trig point) and went straight into some tight, steep switchbacks before throwing you off an 8ft high, 10-13ft stepdown into a tight berm, then it was around some steep off camber corners, down the hill into a very rooty corner, U turn here then back onto the old course, over the jump onto the fireroad, pedal like mad down onto the long super fast section.

Once you get used to flying along in the sunshine its back into the woods, over the big jump, avoid all the roots if possible then down onto possibly the driest section i've ever seen at Bringewood (you could have built a sandcastle in it!) some tight switchbacks and technical corners then down onto the final tabletop and spint to the finish. It was probably the best course at Bringewood, scary fast but also pretty technical for good measure.
The weather had really put the icing on the cake for this weekend, it was dry as a bone, there was an inch of dust on top of the track over hardpack, which made for some comedy crashes in a cloud of dust!
