Pearce Cycles Winter Series Round Three
Bringewood, Ludlow
James - 16th March 2005
Back to racing archive
When we first heard the third round was going to be run at Bringewood, it was met with.. uncertainty. I didnt really think it was worth running the same track as before but only modifying it a little bit, I did like the bombhole course, but some of the bottom section to it wasnt on my faves list.
Then there were a few rumours thrown around that there were some 'links' in the course's, to break up the racing and give people a full run like they'd never seen before..

The course began at the top of the 'bombhole' course, starting off at a tight sprint to the first course, a few quick and sharp turns with a few roots for good measure, then you come to the road gap, after this straight into a left hand berm, through some wide turns with plenty of line choice, much of the same, lots of roots everywhere!
Into the bombhole, across the fireroad and into the bottom woods, instead of going straight ahead to the normal course, we take a right hand turn through a soft, soil/peat track that curves through the woods and we meet the other course on a wide, fast and tricky off camber turn straight into the sprint for the big jump into the woods, this section is always very quick and tends to see a bit of crashing action as people hook up on trees, branches and anything else in the way. Across the bottom fireroad into the right hand side of the finishing section, plenty of steep, quick sections into very tight corners with trees on both side to make sure you stop!
Over the tabletop (which they seemed to have built bigger this time) and sprint to the finish (or coast, depending how lazy you are).
I was down at the bottom for the juveniles first race run, and I was amazed how high the kids were going on the tabletop, they were flying! You'd better watch some of these guys, they'll be challenging the higher podiums in years to come...
The racing went pretty smoothly, with no known timing problems, the usual uplifts and a good atmosphere in the pits!
Now we had a good Pro line up at the race, with Peaty, Longden and both Beaumonts turning up to race, who will win? Will Peaty's family duties slow him down?
Turned out at the end, Steve had beaten now MBUK man Mark Beaumont into 2nd by a whopping 8.23 seconds, with Dave Smith of Pearce Cycles coming in 3rd.
