First race of 2004 wasn't going to disappoint, 271 riders on a Sunday morning, not bad at all! Lots of brand new Christmas presents adorning the bikes just waiting for their first run. As with Pearce Cycles there was a good race finish area and Chris Oakley was on the mic trying to warm us all up!
The day started very frosty and the course was very quickly warmed up and the track had a layer of nasty mud, the top section hadn't seen too much attention and was very slippy, some of the younger riders getting their cranks caught in the deep ruts on some of the corners. The long open section after the fire road jump was getting very difficult to ride with the thick mud limiting how fast you could go before slipping down into the brambles. The wood section wasn't too bad, as most of it was hard mud and the left hand entry into that big jump to the finish line.
The first race runs had some problems with riders of different abilities going down in similar times so there was a lot of passing along the course which of course slowed the times down apart from the higher categories. Luckily no injuries or major problems to moan about and only slight problems with timing which were quickly resolved.
As the frosty mud thawed, the cars began to sink, so out came Dave to mess around on his tractor!
The day finished off great, now onto the next one on the 22nd of February at Bringewood again for the 2nd round.
