Okehampton Jam repo
24th August 2006 - Scott McNulty
Back to articles
Sunday morning, suns shining, grounds dry, it looks like its going to be a good days riding, crap I’m late already…
After a frantic rush we soon got everyone together and off we headed to Okehampton, while on the way we had to make a few repairs to the bikes, we soon had it sorted though with a bit of moaning here and cursing there :0)
When we arrived there, I was in the mood to ride, so we padded up and followed the trail down to the shore area. Hell it was busy there, was easily over 120 riders there and a load more non-biking spectators, looks like it is going to be a good-un, and a good-un it was. As soon as we got there, the riding was top notch from the start. We had a walk around 1st to see what was happening and on our travels we met the guys from Okefreeriders obviously, Haldon lot were there (well some ;0), Riding High UK made an appearance and bought along the team (a lot of good riding going on there), Cliff from the Bike park ltd came along, Norco had a stable of test bikes and well, you get the idea, there was a lot of people there.
I’m not going to talk about the riding, pictures can do that better than words, but an honourable mention should go out to Manley and Cliff for taking control of the megaphone and running the mini comps on the different sections and all the riders that turned up, without which the day would not of been possible.
Anyway here we go, a showcase of all the best parts:

Riding along the top line

Riding the swingsaw

Styling it up off the drop

step-up to manual

No footed can off the drop

doubling up on the swingsaw

no footer off the drop
Overall, the actual mood and vibe of the day was awesome, this could be to do with the fact that it was all free, or maybe something to do with the fact that no one felt they had to be better than the other person. Other venues should take note of this event, its how it should be done.
Thanks go out to Okefreeriders for putting the event on, the general public for coming along and supporting the riders, and everyone else that made it happen.
Were you at the event or want to find out more? Then head to our forums to keep up with the latest news and events.
