Crankworx 2006: Teaser

With just one day to go before the biggest Mountain bike event of the year kicks off, the Whistler Bike park crew has their hands full. Under the careful guidance of Seb Fremont, of Whistler-Blackcomb Events, they were working in force to finish the Boneyard and the finish corral for all the events. The size of the features have really been stepped up compared to previous years. A massive series of gap ladder bridges to a huge drop is the new finish stunt, and it looks like the riders are going to be airing out over a giant TV screen. This is the largest single stunt I have ever seen built here and I can't wait to see what the athletes are going to make of it.
Today a lot of the racers were already out walking the course for the Canadian Downhill Championships.

Temperatures have been soaring lately and it only looks like it will be hotter. By noon today it was already well over 30 degrees Celsius (around 90 deg. Fahrenheit), and the trend is supposed to continue through the week. In the wake of this intense heat the park was pretty empty as most opted for a day at one of the many beaches and lakes that surround Whistler. But more than a few of the racers were braving it and walking the course for the Canadian Downhill Championship that kicks off first.

Workers in the heat

I myself poked around a bit in the morning to see the work that was going on then decided that some friend, cold brews, and lake jumping were the order of the day.
I will be back up there though, heat or not as the action kicks off.
