fat tyre magazine - downhill, freeride and messing about on mountain bikes
INTERVIEW: Roo Fowler
21st February 2005 - James
Back to articles

You might've seen our previous photo based interview with Harookz, and we got a good positive reponse from this, we're keeping it going.
Roo is a photographer I noticed about a year or so ago, he is another one of the young guys bringing some new inspiration to the table, and taking shots that we've never seen before.

But only recently have we really seen his work appear in mags on adverts, and recently MBUK interviewed him in their 'Dirt' section. Really this is just to show off his work - and rightly so...

FTMB: Name?
RF: Rupert Fowler or Roo to my friends

Age?
19

Location?
Guildford, Surrey

Film shot - PORC winter race

How did you start taking photos?
A friend got into it and took some pictures of me and friends riding - I liked the way you could look at the pictures and be reminded of what that day was like.

Digital or film?
Digital for colour, film for black and white!

Who do you look to for inspiration when you’re taking photos?
The riders I think! I can't believe some of the stuff riders do every weekend, I try and capture it so they can see for themselves and other people can see what goes on otherwise it would just be lost.

Digital - Stu Loxley at Winchester

Of all the riders you've took pictures of, who stands out?
Two really; Ollie Wilkins - take the photo at any stage of a jump and it will usually make a good picture also Jimmy Pratt for height alone!

Favourite MTB product and why?
Gotta be Marzocchi Z1 duals, they got it so right with those forks!

Looking forward to in 2006?
Summer! Hoping to get up the Fort William for the world cup, but also the Porthreath KOD weekend August sometime.

Digital - Sam at Woburn
