Battle Royal 2004
19th November 2004 - Dan White
Back to articles
Saturday saw the MX action, reports are that the track was in great condition, the best we've seen at a Battle Royal, all the riders I spoke with said they were stoked to be at the event. Full line up with Ryan Vose taking the win, Will Longden (MBUK) 2nd being the fastest mountain biker on the MX track.
Mini Bike practise was running all day and was a right carry-on. I haven't enjoyed watching anybody ride any thing that much in a long-time. The track was sandy to say the least due to late arriving diggers, everybody hoping that it would pack down ok for Sunday? The track was built in a day and whilst not prefect for Saturday made for some pretty demanding racing on Sunday. Stu would like to thank every body for their patience. We would like to thank Stu.

Thanks Stu!
The party started early with a heated tent and lots of Stella. I caught a chair with my head, wicked, cheers Mr Wakeman. Nick had a little dance amounst the hoards of ladies that attended the party. Not true, he danced alone. I saw about 4 girls but hey! Next year maybe you can get in free if your a lady? or dress like one!
Sunday, the main event!
Practise was mayhem, hundreds of smiles. This was a real personal challenge, if you could run a lap with out a crash you were on it! The track was packing down well, the last straight remained a nightmare but a true test.
The take off for the biggest double having ruts in that you had to drag your footpegs through.
Donny was looking fast! and Steve Jones was looking good, huge smile nice helmet, big headlight!

Peaty - Nice lid.
Racing;
The start was amazing 40/50 riders in a Mini western beach race stylee!
The stock 50 class was won by reluctant world Mini Bike Champion Stu Hughes (Royal). Stu was looking good all weekend with Lee Stephenson taking second and Lee Bertrum (Royal) in 3rd. "I love anything where you can have 6 crashes in your race and still podium" Bertrum said. Nick (Royal) landed with his face in Steve's back wheel trashing his newly painted lid and making every body smile. So it was kinda worth it.
90cc
Similar mayhem, Jonny Groves taking the win, followed by Jason Powell and Dan Atherton in 3rd. Again fantastic crash packed racing with a frantic starts.
The Unlimited class saw Billy Cheetham take the win after consistent races, Steve P (Royal/Orange) looking fast on his new Midsize.

Bwaaaaap - Fairclough
Sorry if the results are a little vague or names spelt wrong, sponsors missed but results really aint the point here. This is racing for the right reasons the reasons we all started for fun... I think even those people who burnt holes in their feet, trashed their bikes, trashed helmets & heads came home having had a ball.
Steve would like to thank every body involved in making this happen. Ed at the Doncaster Moto park, Stu for his efforts with the truly demanding track, Jonny Groves, their are just to many to mention im sure you know who you are, cheers. Big thanks to Red Bull, Dirt & Moto, DC and Mini Bike Pro.

Tom (Team 202426) railing the berm at speed
Thanks to everybody who attended and made the event what it was.
This was the best Battle Royal to date and look like next year will be even bigger. Stu and the team are hoping to run another event at Doncastor on the 27th weather permitting on a revised, harder packed track.

Who needs a spade?
Big thanks to Stan @ 202426 link for the pics!
Many thanks and Royal Regards to everybody who had anything to do with this.
