Bike Mag Monster Park Invitational
3rd July 2004 - Dud
Back to articles
As if there weren’t enough Freeride comps already, Bike magazine has paired up with some of the biggest names in the industry to create the ultimate Slopestyle invitational. It will be held at Marquette Mountain in Michigan on the 7th and 8th of July and looks set to go off. The comp will follow the same setup as similar snowboard events with riders hitting a variety of jumps, gaps and drops for two runs, the better of which will be judged. The course was created by John Cowan and includes dirt jumps, street sections and of course technical stunts. Also there are set to be a few surprise features that have never before been seen in a bike competition before.
The Monster Park is strictly invitation only, with only 15 places available, not a lot when you consider the amount of very decent freeriders there are currently. Riders already confirmed include Wayne Goss of RaceFace (recent UFC winner) Kona’s Joe Schwartz, Red Bull’s Shaums March, Specialized’s Matt Hunter and the well known Darren Berrecloth. The celebrity list doesn't end with the riders however as the head judge for the Monster Park will be Dave Watson well known for the huge gap drop over the Tour de France riders (seen in NWD: Ride the Lightning)
If you can’t manage to make it over to Michigan this weekend however don’t worry because Derek Westurland of Freeride Entertainment will be on hand to capture all the action for the next New World Disorder instalment.
The photos of the building going into this event show some huge wooden structures going up and some large scale earth movement this always means eye opening riding and eye watering carnage. The Monster Park looks set to compete with Red Bull's awesome Freeride events held in the past and I for one will be looking forward to the video coverage.
