WeWhile flicking through a popular magazine the other day I stumbled across an advert for DunCon bikes. Having never heard of them before I decided to take a look at their site. Instantly the site flickers with some very professional flash design and some mean but cool looking bike skeleton but you'll have to visit duncon.co.uk to see what I'm talking about. Anyway so far it all looks very promising. Read on for the low-down on the Polish invaders....

DC have been making and testing their bikes for over four years now, based in Poland. Their website states that they have been particularly popular on the dirt jump and downhill scene. More recently they have invaded the UK and are now ready to distribute.

Currently their range is five rather special looking machines. The first thing that I noticed is how different they look to any other frame on the market, not particularly in build but with instantly striking paint jobs. The bikes range from an all day Freeride hardtail, to a big hitting tough as fu*k looking frame interestingly named the Cock. (Whether this means something else in polish I have no idea) The Presa Canario is setup and built to take World Cup style DH courses then the very reasonably priced (£500) Tosa Inu soft tail is aimed at UK DH and hard Freeride.

All this aside the bike that particularly struck me was the Cock. This bike appears to have it all for the hard street and big drop rider who doesn't want any of that pansy suspension messing up his pedalling. It has a very slack head angle and double top tube gusseted in massive quantities at all possible weak points. The design does appear to be very similar to the new Evil Bikes Imperial, but with some rather nice additions. For example this bike has a BMX sized bottom bracket shell for the strength of a BMX but inset to this is an MTB BB to allow for the range of products manufactured for MTB's. Also the Cock has an adjustable wheelbase which allows the rider to set it up exactly as they wish, short and twitchy or long and stable. (If you have seen the new LeToy you will be familiar with this)

To sum up it appears we have a new contender in the UK providing Hardcore Hardtails and this can never be a bad thing. But truly the best aspect of this frame it is £80 short of the 24Bikes price and a hell of a lot cheaper than the Imperial. This is always a major factor in considering a hardtail as riders opting for no bounce often have a smaller budget.

I am hoping to be getting my hands on a Cock soon (yeah yeah..) and putting it through its paces. Expect a full review in the future. For now check out www.duncon.co.uk
