Core Bike 2008

As we were heading down the long drive that leads to Whittlesbury Hall, I was pretty sure the satnav had messed up and sent us down the wrong road, then we spotted the huge CoreBike sign and couldnt quite believe it. Behind us a chauffeur driven Merc, to the side a golf course as far as the eye can see, and in front a huge mansion. I'd smartened up a bit but I might as well have walked in covered in mud, even the lads filling the coffee machine up were better dressed!
CoreBike brings together a whole range of distributors, as well as individual brands from across the world to show their wares. We've tried to put together a few of the highlights from the show, of course as this is a bit later into the season all the new product releases have come and gone for 08, but there's still a few choice bits and pieces of interest...

Gearbox bikes are all the rage these days, and possibly even the future of our sport, a major part of that is the G-Boxx standard. This allows manufacturers like Orange to design their bikes around the box, then bolt it straight in. That might be massively simplified, but the basics are there. Orange were showing one of their prototypes at the show, there is another one in the works but thats only for a select few eyes!

Fox Europe came along to the show with an impressive range of MTB specific gear, from jerseys and shorts to goggles and helmets. You've probably seen the Main and Main Pro goggles around, but this design certainly caught our eye. The swirls are repeated throughout the main frame, as well as the strap; you certainly will be seen with these puppies on!

It wouldnt be mountain biking without a bit of fooling about, and despite the looks on the porters faces, Mike Rose tested out the latest DMR bike in one of the many corridors.

THE Industries has some of the finest designs for 2008, if you're in the market for a new fullface, THE has it covered. With a whole range of colours, as well as composite and carbon construction options, theres a helmet for everyone! The Legion Carbon is the one for us, but if you really wanna stand out the Vegas is the big in your face design.. only fast boys need apply!

e.13 are constantly bringing out new bits and pieces, whether its another little tweak on a design or a new colour. The Taco is available next year, basically 1/4 of a Supercharger bashguard which fits to the backplate and offers protection from rocks at a fraction of the price!

Thats a round-up of the bits and pieces that caught our eye, as said before, CoreBike is above all a trade show, not for major new releases, but for distributors to snap up dealers with offers and discounts!
