Crankworx & Bearclaw Invitational: Lookback
18th October 2007 - Jim
Back to articles
This year has been the year for racing, with awesome results from Sam Hill and a few surprises along the way, not to mention the World Champs. But freeride has also been making progress, and the Bearclaw Invitational really took off this year, along with Crankworx again being the usual show of skills, style and new tricks. A few years ago a backflip would've won you the entire competition, but unless you can pull a backflip tailwhip or similar combination dont even bother entering, the bar is constantly being raised and the progression in mountain biking is incredible.
We have a few shots from the summer here, lets start with the Bearclaw Invitational.

This was also the year freeride was brought to the masses with the Nissan Qashqai series across Europe. We tripped up to Newcastle to take a look at the action, and I believe, the only website to get in on the action? If you missed it, check out the Newcastle Qashqai, hopefully this is just the beginning of high profile sponsorship for events like this. The extreme sports market is the fastest growing in the sports sector, and big companies know this.

Next up was Crankworx, the annual massive freeride festival in Whistler, Canada.

This year has been a big one for Andreu Lacondeguy, taking on the whole Qashqai series, as well as nearly every freeride event going. With big time sponsors like Red Bull and Adidas he's got a big future, and he's only at the beginning of his freeride career.

Next year we should have live coverage again, unfortunately due to a few personal issues it wasnt possible this year, till then keep it clicked.
